History

The row house that is the Mary Meyer School was first known as the Pine Grove Preschool. It was founded in 1943 by a group of concerned parents eager to provide their children with a joyful introduction to school. Under the early guidance of Mary Meyer, an extraordinary teacher who directed the school until her retirement, the school became well known for offering a safe and nurturing environment for children and for providing an extended community for their families.

The school’s roots as an independent, parent-supported institution are reflected in its history. Since its very founding and a parent-financed purchase of the school’s building in its early years, families have been working with the school’s teaching staff to assure a warm and meaningful experience for children.
